Golfers dream of playing at Augusta or at St. Andrews, but they would be missing out if the skipped over Castlegandolfo Country Club just outside of Rome. The club house at Castlegandolfo was built in the 17th century and over looks the crater of a volcano. The course plays at just over 6,200 yards from the deepest tees and was designed by famed course architect Robert Trent Jones. They do have 5 different sets of tees so hackers need not fear. The 4th hole on this course is often voted one of the best in Europe. A par 4 that looks like a swan from above has water on both sides as you approach the hole. The most interesting hole on the course is the 16th, the back drop of this hole includes a view of the Pope’s summer residence. Greens fees for the course are affordable at around 60 Euros. They accept all major credit cards and offer most amenities you would find at any country club.
